Riding past Wellington Lake from our camping site.
Cyclocross-style puddle/small pond crossings.
Challenging grades.
Eerily beautiful (but sad) forest areas in recovery from the Hayman Fire.
We were able to find our way back home without having to hitchhike?!
A post ride beer followed by nap in the hammock never felt so good!
We planned an out and back ride today but ended up doing a loop (and thank goodness we could complete a loop!). We went down an unexpected, dangerous incline that would have been very difficult/impossible to hike back up in bike shoes. Super sketchy!
Do this ride if you want a huge challenge and ONLY if you are ok walking/sliding your bike down about 1/4-1/2 miles of steep downhill on very chunky, loose gravel and sand alongside tons of car traffic. (Or just go to the steep section and turn around and come back before going down.)
Our research about these gravel roads didn’t tell us anything about the type of gravel, general condition of the road or grade. This is just a friendly reminder to have a back up plan if things don’t work out as expected.
