We had amazing views of the Colorado foothills with horses and snow cap mountains (not something you see in every state!).Very quiet dirt roads and friendly drivers who had respect for bikers and slowed down. This new gravel route allowed us to get lost in Evergreen and enjoy the quaint neighborhoods (pun intended- we actually did get lost so you will want to edit this Strava route a bit)
We had hoped for more unpaved roads overall but it turned out to be more unmaintained and poorly paved roads .
We plotted our route using Colorado Gravel Roads and unfortunately one of the dirt roads we chose turned out to be a private road with a big old gate to keep us out (Rose did attempt to bust through)! We were forced to back track a bit, then find a different way around.
Do this ride if you want to get into the foothills, have a steady climb and you are interested in meandering through quiet neighborhoods and beautiful horse properties.
You can cut off the first and the last 12 miles (Bear Creek Canyon) and start at Evergreen Lake if you want a shorter ride, less climbing and quieter roads.
The Phillips 66 gas station across from where we parked/started is a great place to get water and use the bathroom. (There are several good places to stop in the town of Evergreen as well.)
